Haitian girl undergoes life-changing eye surgery

An orphan from Haiti underwent eye surgery at the Wang Vision Institute in Nashville on Tuesday.

Long-term missionary and Nashville native Karris Hudson first met nine-year-old Margarette at an orphanage in Haiti.

Margarette was extremely malnourished and clinging to life.

The years of malnutrition had taken most of her sight.

After weeks of treatment in a local hospital, Margarette's condition had improved, but workers knew she still needed help.

Margarette recently flew to Nashville, where she underwent surgery in one of her eyes on Tuesday.

Doctors said the surgery went well, and they should know in the coming days if her vision has improved.

Dr. Ming Wang said he hopes to be able to restore vision to the other eye.

U.S. Senator Bob Corker's office helped Margarette get an emergency medical visa.
